Fall Back to Summer

I love that the colors of summer still shine brightly against the beauty of the changing leaves.

As Alys counts down to Halloween, I count down to this weekend’s ride!

Three Days!!

Stripes

Each day for the past week I have driven by this field and been distracted by the colors and the stripes.

Not Colorado

Yep, as I was riding along in the setting sun.  Red Rock.  In Southwest Virginia.

A Little Bit Color / A Little Bit Black and White

It’s a busy Saturday (Go VT Hokies!) and I’ll be taking lots of wedding reception shots in a couple hours … so why not a couple of the trestle first?

(anyone get the title’s take off on Donnie and Marie?)

019

Which do you like better?

Despite a photo title that is reminiscent of a certain holiday in July, it is officially fall and the perfect time for riding.  I’ve got one more long weekend off of work before the cold sets in and I’m planning a ride through parts of Tennessee and North Carolina.

I hit the road in 3 weeks! You’ll be there with me, right?  🙂

It’s Coming!

As I head off to Charlottesville for a Saturday meeting, I’ll hope that you all are outside somewhere, enjoying the beauty of early fall.

Green Shoes at the Krog Street Tunnel

While in Atlanta this past weekend (watching my beloved Virginia Tech Hokies) my friend Ruth and I were given a tour of several local neighborhoods.  Theresa, our friend and tour guide, was good to let me jump out of the car at various times to capture some of the flavor.

These shoes were hanging over the Krog Street Tunnel, which is known for it’s street art.

Locals call it “Atlanta’s living bulletin board and urban art gallery”.

More Photos from the Road soon!

Sidewalk Art: Would You Have Stopped to Shoot?

Well, maybe not art exactly.  Just some oil on the sidewalk, made more colorful by the late afternoon light and the recent rain.

001

So … would you have stopped to take the shot?

Rhodies in the Evening Light

Sometimes I’m home at just the right time to catch the evening light on the rhododendrons outside my front door.  I wish I could take credit for them being there, but they came with the house when I bought it 16 years ago.

Different Colors / Different Evenings.

Get Your Camera Settings Right!

You can sing that title to the tune of  Born to Be Wild.

I have been so frustrated the last 2 days because my photos were just not turning out the way I had hoped they would.  Now, I get that sometimes I’ll take 20 shots and be happy with just 1 or 2, but yesterday nothing seemed to work!  Finally, in frustration I looked at my settings.

Yep!  I had the color setting to add extra red to my shots.

How? Why? When?

Who Knows!!

Can you tell which one was on the wrong setting?

051

I couldn’t 🙂

I’m open to  any suggestions to improve macro shots (I don’t have an SLR)
