Happiness

What is it about sunflowers that make us happy?

20161001_105328-3

My sister and I spent a few hours in downtown Roanoke this past Saturday while waiting on my motorcycle to get it’s 10,000 mile check.

Breakfast. Exploring the Farmers Market.  Just being silly.

In addition to all that goodness, I found out that it was the Voltage Regulator that was draining my bike battery. Problem Solved!

It was a beautiful ride home!  Next time I’ll bring the camera!

Choices

Life is full of them.

Work. Volunteer. Chores. Play.

_mg_5384-2

And then there is WordPress.  Posting our own blogs and visiting others.

_mg_5382-3

After visiting as many of you as possible, it’s time to move on for the night.

_mg_5380-2

I’ll be back soon with photos from time on the water and time on the bike.

Seeking Solace

On the way to work this morning, I pulled over to find solace behind the lens.

_MG_4231-5

The news out of America, each and every day this week, has been devastating.  Frankly, it’s been this way for much longer than a week.

_MG_4229-2

We are a terribly divided nation.

_MG_4220-2

I’ve seen people asking for prayers for Police Officers, without mention of the victims of racial, gender, and sexual violence.
I’ve seen people asking for prayers for the vicims of racial, gender, and sexual violence, without mention of the Police Officers.

We cannot let violence divide us any more than it already has.

I wish the rain could wash away the hate and the violence, but since it can’t we must unite to Stop the Violence!

_MG_4242-3

As I sit here, listening to the pouring rain, I am horrified by the violence.  I grieve for the families.

_MG_4241-3

I am saddened and frightened by the divisiveness and hate, and I am angry that we can’t seem to find any solutions to the violence.

Stand Up

_MG_2805-2

Amidst the sadness, the anger, and all of the awful wrongs in this world, there is still beauty to be found … in nature, in good people doing great things, and in the heroes who stand up and do what is right.

_MG_2806-3

Thanks to the two heroes in California for STANDING UP!

We must all STAND UP!  I’m too angry about the injustice to write more right now, nor am I eloquent enough to do so ever.  But I will keep standing up and trying to do right.

The Fullness of May

The month of May is always full … of flowers, and rain, and a lift in the step of folks who have been longing for warmer weather.

_MG_2641-2

For me, it is also filled with planning and implementing the Ride of Silence and the Annual Memorial Day Service.

It is such an honor to work alongside others in remembrance of those who have died in the service of the US, or on our public roads.

_MG_2627-3

Despite the full schedule, there is still time for book group.  I read late into the night on Wednesday in order to be prepared for our Thursday discussion.  We met on the new porch, surrounded by flowers made even more beautiful by the late day sun.

_MG_2646-3

Have you read “How to Tell Toledo From the Night Sky” by Lydia Netzer?

Life is ever full … of friends, of flowers, of books, and service, and I am thankful.

Around Radford

Saturday dawned with a list of errands that needed running, and despite the expectation of rain, I decided to ride the bike.  It should surprise no one that I also made sure to find time to shoot some of the local scene.

_MG_1929-2

I wish I could give you a little back story about this courtyard and the wall that surrounds it, but I have no history.  The plan is to go to Facebook and see if some of the Radford locals can help me out.  Many is the time that I have tried to capture a photo to reflect the wall’s uniqueness, and many times I have deleted those images.  Not today!

_MG_1930-3

It was quite overcast, but clouds always make for intriguing images.

_MG_1899-3

The post processing here reflects the historic trestle over the New River, and a monochrome image will be posted on Monochromia sometime in the next few weeks.

_MG_1904-4

In order to get these images, I had to stop the bike and walk over the bridge.  Thankfully, this fencing only briefly obscures the view.

_MG_1913-4

Some friends have purchased, and while still running the business, are renovating this 50 yr old Pizza House.

A quick stop at a friend’s home yielded these Rhododendron images.  Such a gorgeous bud and bloom!

IMG_1938-7

Every item on the To Do List was checked off, and I enjoyed a cool, slightly drizzly ride.

Satisfaction indeed!

Symbiotic

_MG_1693-2

I’ve always been told that Peonies and Ants have a symbiotic relationship, but a little research revealed that not all believe this to be true.

What say you, my gardening friends?

Surprise!

Illness visited my house last week, and because of that, I was not paying attention to the weather report._MG_1536-2

Okay, let’s be honest, I never pay attention to the weather report.

Needless to say, I was surprised when I opened the curtains Saturday morning to see snow on the ground.

_MG_1540-3

We’ve all seen Daffodils push up through the snow, but I’m pretty sure my Redbud Tree had not seen the white stuff before.

Between spring snow and upcoming travel, my bike will remain quietly on the carport for another week.  Sigh …

Blooming

_MG_1380-2

Spring is officially here and there are just two more days until a weekend without travel, and an opportunity to visit all of you.
