3 More Days … Hoping for sun but will ride no matter what!

For the Love of the Ride

You ride in the heat and the cold; the sun and the rain.

But sometimes you pull over and wait out the storm.

All for the love of the ride.

Sidewalk Art: Would You Have Stopped to Shoot?

Well, maybe not art exactly.  Just some oil on the sidewalk, made more colorful by the late afternoon light and the recent rain.

001

So … would you have stopped to take the shot?

Will It Ever Stop???

The RAIN, I mean!

Honestly, I rarely complain about the weather!  I walk out the door in the morning without having looked at or listened to a weather report.  Hurricanes, thunder storms, floods, heatwaves … I am often unaware that they are in the forecast until I leave the house and someone fills me in.  It’s easy for me to be this way; my work isn’t affected by the weather.  And besides, I love the energy of a storm.

Recently we’ve been heartbroken about the loss of 19 firefighters in Arizona.  I keep thinking that if somehow the western states could have gotten some of our rain, things might have ended differently on Yarnell Hill.  And I’m quite sure that all the folks in my neck of the woods would be grateful to see a bit of  that southwestern sun.

Our most recent storm caused some pretty significant flooding in Southwest Virginia.  In fact, a pond developed in a friend’s back yard.  And since I’m a long time fan of puddle jumping, and playing in the water in general, I headed out for some fun!

Yes! I did play in the pond!

I loved the ripples that were created when I moved around the pond …

and the raindrops caused lovely patterns as well.

These sort of looked like abstract water colors.

So, despite the fact that we are all pretty fed up, there’s no doubt that rain helps to create beautiful images.

The Middle of the Road

I was supposed to hit the lake with friends this evening, but threatening rain early in the day led to a reschedule.  The sun was shining brightly as I headed toward home after work, and it was still shining during a brief but beautiful rain shower.

I only had moments to get the camera out and push the shutter .  The rain was slowing down and I was – after all – stopped in the middle of the road.

Pretty cool moment, for sure!

Seeking Shelter

It’s been steadily raining for hours here in Southwest Virginia, and it’s anticipated to do so for a few more days.  During a quick break in the clinical day, I went outside and huddled under an umbrella in order to take photos of raindrops on leaves.

I found this little guy seeking shelter from the storm.

One Stormy Day in May: From the Truck

This is the last of the series of Stormy Monday posts (see From the Bridge and From the Office).

The ride home continued to provide wonderful opportunities for photography.  While all of us in SWVA (and in many other places I am sure) are ready for the sun to shine, the stormy skies have been beautiful!

016

Until the storms clear, I’ve been resigned to shoot from the truck, but I sure am missing my motorcycle!

017

Until then, at least I can enjoy views like this!

018

And if the sun shines this weekend, I ride!

One Stormy Day in May: From the Office

How fortunate am I to have this view when I leave my office at the end of each day?

009

These two photographs are very similar but one emphasizes the green and the other, the impressive cloud formations from all the storm activity we’ve been having here in SWVA.

010

Yesterday, I posted photos taken during this same storm system. Please look here if you missed them.
