What Was It About This?

The bright sun shining through and creating lovely shadows?

That same bright light revealing the very dirty window?

The tiny reflection of the flower in the glass?

The simple things in life: flowers, cards, candles, beer, plants?

Not sure … but it caught my eye so thanks for looking!

The Early Morning Colors of Winter

While I didn’t really want to be up and on the road to Charlottesville at 6:30 am for a professional meeting, the views and colors along the way were beautifully subtle.

014

As I traveled farther down the road, the sun gradually came up and the colors became brighter.

Adding a soft focus to this photo really highlighted the red.

016

The colors of the cows added to the palette.

But my favorite colors of the day were those found in this tranquil farm scene … the smoke from the chimney, the fog over the mountain, the barely rising sun against the brown of the trees and the white of the snow … just lovely!

A Different Take on the Setting Sun

The sunset was stunning tonight and so of course I pulled over to take shots of the horizon.  The resulting photos were pretty enough, but they just did not do justice to what mother nature had put on display.

On the other hand, the view through this overgrown bush outside my office (that I’d seen before I headed home), put a  whole different perspective on the sinking sun.

In fact, I loved the way the bright light darkened the leaves

Kinda cool, don’t you think?

Perhaps kinda hot is a better descriptive.

The Remains of the Tree

No doubt this snowfall was beautiful, and 3 days later the snow is still on the ground because of the cold temperatures – a bit unusual for SWVA.  It was a wet dense snow and it definitely took it’s toll.  Both trees and power lines came down, leaving many without power.

One medium sized pine fell across my driveway and the wood is now stacked up and ready for use. Something about the sun on the wood that next morning caught my eye …

Don’t Be a Hater of Snow

I know, I know … snow can be an inconvenience, and yes, even dangerous.

Still, I just can’t help but love it!

It brings out the child in all of us (and boy, did it bring out the child in me and my friends last night – but that’s another story!).

The beauty of snow is almost overwhelming.

The Old Radford Incinerator

I’m sure you are thinking “why would she take pictures of an incinerator?”

001

As you can see, even an incinerator looks good in the morning sun.  Actually it was the tall grasses, shining in the light that caught my eye.

003

002

I pass this old incinerator every morning.  I know it is no longer used and that it was built in 1949.  That’s about all I know.

006

I’ll have to see what else I can find about it!

Why this? The LIGHT, of course!

I love the unexpected find … I went out to shoot something else, but this simple porch decoration, bright in the late afternoon sun, caught my eye instead.

It’s All About the Light

This was my view while sitting at a stop light on a beautiful but chilly 32 degree January morning.  A quick U turn and I was out of the truck and snapping away.  The chill led to a bit of a shaky hand, but I still loved the light on the bell tower of Radford University’s new College of Business and Education building.

What Others See When I’m Shooting

By now you know that I pull over to the side of the ride all the time on the way to work.  This morning, I was attracted by the sun barely peeking through the clouds and just had to stop.  As I was walking back to the truck, I saw what others see as I am pulled over.

Yeah … I’m silly today!

Have a good one and GO HOKIES!!!
