Monochromia Connections

As you view this Black & White  image, I am on the train to NYC to meet up with some of the photographers who contribute to Monochromia!

We all know the gifts of WP blogging, and I’ve been tremendously blessed to have made friends the world over.

In just a few short hours, I’ll be gathering with photographers that I met years ago through WordPress.  Since then those photographers have become friends and I cannot wait to them all in person.

Stay tuned for photos!

Travel: Trains and Bikes

It’s the beginning of the weekend, and while there is still one more day of work, I’m anticipating a weekend on the motorcycle.  YAY!

The images you see here are my recent contributions to Monochromia.

If you haven’t visited Monochromia yet, please do! Photographers from around the world contribute some incredible B&W images to this blog, and several of those photographers, including me, will be meeting in NYC in October.

How cool is that?

My travels will prevent me from visiting each of you until next week.  Sending peaceful thoughts during tumultuous times.

What a wild spring it has been, and just look at the stunning clouds that spring storms bring.

I’d never seen a live Starfish before.  What a neat find during a morning walk on Siesta Beach.

A little Starfish research offered the following info:

Starfish come in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes, but they all resemble a star.  They have spines covering their upper surface and a soft underside.  Starfish are not actually fish. They do not have gills, scales, or fins.  They have tiny tube feet to help them move along.

What do you think?

My post for Monochromia this week.

It was a bright, sunshiney day, but tell me, do you think it was cold or warm?  This image could go either way, right?

Even after all this time, I find myself thinking about how lucky I am to be hanging out, virtually anyway, with the rest of the Monochromia photographers.  I mean, seriously, I still need to learn how to adjust shutter speed.

I’m just going to sit here in the soft morning light, enjoy my cup of coffee, and ponder my good fortune.

Suffrage

_MG_8495-2

Election day in the US is just 2 days away and I thought I’d share a photo of a gift I received after entering the race for the Virginia House of Delegates.

Like many of you, LMA from Suffragette Kitty has become a WordPress friend and supporter of my campaign.  She is a passionate feminist and supporter of the Women’s Movement, and I love her writing.  Early in the campaign, LMA sent me this collection of items from Orchard House, the home of Louisa May Alcott.

“In the days before the 19th Amendment, a wealthy Newport socialite ordered a tea set emblazoned with the phrase “Votes for Women” to make a point to the influential guests who often dined with her. The Alcotts were ardent supporters of the women’s suffrage movement, and today we offer replicas of this tea set and other items bearing the “Votes for Women” motto” (from the Museum Store catalog).

And one more thing:  Thank you for your friendship and support, emotionally and financially, during this campaign.  I cannot thank you enough and I look forward to visiting with you soon!

❤ Laurie
