Waking Up in an Alternate Reality

Deborah is able to put into words how I have been feeling, and offers quotes from HRC’s concession speech, which I have not been able to watch. Thank you, Deborah.

I woke this morning feeling as if I had  been tossed from the real world into an alternate universe–where Trump had become president. I kept grasping for something that would allow me to return to that safer and saner world where Hillary had won.

How could a man who had said such vile things about women and immigrants, who had mocked the disabled, insulted POW war heroes, bashed Gold Star families, and belittled worthy adversaries become the leader of our nation and the free world?

How could the most qualified person ever to seek the presidential office, who had worked her whole life to help children, oppressed women, and working families, who would in turn break a long-standing ceiling to become the first woman to hold the highest office in our land–how could she lose to him?

I felt sure there must be another reality in which…

Photo Bloggers In NYC!

If you saw my last post, you know that I had the incredible opportunity to travel to New York City to meet up with some of the Monochromia photographers.  While I’d never met any of these people in person, we’d been online friends for years.

I took the train from Washington, DC to Penn Station where I met Joe and Terry.   After checking into our hotel, we walked right across the street to quench our travel thirst.  How convenient!

Soon enough we were joined by Patti.

It was not long before the cameras came out, and we were hitting the streets.

Stacy, already in the city for a photography workshop, joined us next,

soon followed by Robyn who drove up from PA.

We visited Grand Central Station, the World Trade Center Memorial, St Patrick’s Cathedral, Central Park, and the Public Library.

We traveled by subway, taxi, and elevator (yes, there’s a story there), and by foot … many, many miles by foot!

We met great people, including Patti’s husband, Mark, and enjoyed good food and drink.

There are many stories to tell and photos to share.

For now though, I just have to express how fortunate I feel to have met so many great people, virtually and in person, through WP.

Please visit Monochromia to see the image of Joe that I shot when Patti captured this one of me. Thanks Patti!

More NYC photos soon!

The next two weeks will find me opening a new medical practice.  Despite that, I hope to find time to visit all of you this coming weekend.

Monochromia Connections

As you view this Black & White  image, I am on the train to NYC to meet up with some of the photographers who contribute to Monochromia!

20161001_105251-copy-2

We all know the gifts of WP blogging, and I’ve been tremendously blessed to have made friends the world over.

In just a few short hours, I’ll be gathering with photographers that I met years ago through WordPress.  Since then those photographers have become friends and I cannot wait to them all in person.

Stay tuned for photos!

Polished

My friend Crystal, over at Conscious Engagement is a woman of many talents.

_MG_1682-2

She is a hard working, home owning, keeper of chickens, and is also an incredible Mom, a passionate hiker and traveler, and a lover of photography and music.

And even though we’ve never met in the physical sense, I am oh so happy to call her my friend.   When I admired the mailbox that she and Tara had renovated with leftover nail polish, it wasn’t long before my very own unique and colorful mailbox arrived.

Thanks to my nephew Sam, who installed it yesterday, I now have the best looking box on the street!

Thank you, Crystal! Thank you, Tara!

You can read about their creativity here.

One Year Ago

We Interrupt the posts about 3 Days in Florida to remember an incredible time.

One year ago, a group of intrepid WordPress Bloggers met in Washington, DC.

IMG_2142-2

Oh, what a time we had!  And although most of us had never met in person, within moments we knew we were sisters of the heart.

The next day, we were joined by three more WP Bloggers, and the happiness grew.

IMG_2185-2

And later that day, we met with another!

IMG_2247-2

Oh what a time we had!

Stories were told, adventures were shared, laughter bubbled up and out, and love was abundant.

We traveled around in the big red truck,

and when we said goodbye at the train station in Lynchburg, the rain was a perfect metaphor.

Tears as we said goodbye, but many, many more tears of joy!

(Edit: this post was supposed to publish on the one year anniversary of the gathering, which will be April 3rd.  Sigh … ALSO, the last photo was taken by either Pauline or Boomdee, yet it has my watermark.  I apologize for both errors)

Dear Opl: I Love You

My kind and generous friend Alys, of Gardening Nirvana wrote a lovely post about incredibly talented Shelley from Peak Perspective, and about Shelley’s new book, Dear Opl!  Please, please read this post to learn more about both of these women that I am blessed to call friend.

Born To Organize's avatarGardening Nirvana

dear Opl-001My pre-ordered copies of Dear Opl arrived this week. It was great fun opening the box. I finally had my hands on this gem of a book, penned by Shelley Sackier of Peak Perspective.

My 15-year-old son asked why I ordered so many copies. “Because I know the author,” I gushed, to which he replied, “Yeah, but why do you need so many copies of the same book?”

More about that in a bit.

I discovered Shelley’s blog a few years ago and quickly became a fan. She’s an extraordinary writer, who weaves humor and smarts into a variety of essays published weekly. When I belly up to my computer and settle in for a good read, I know I’ll be entertained. I’m also there to learn. Each week I try to absorb that special something that makes her an engaging writer. When my blog grows up it wants…
