So Which Is It – Coming or Going?

IMG_2595-2

This image is my contribution to Monochromia this week.  As always, I encourage you to check out the work of the fabulous photographers who share their work on that fine blog devoted to B&W Photography.

Late yesterday, I finally edited the photos from a trip that I took almost 2 months ago.  After planting some trees this morning and spending the day knocking doors and introducing myself to the people in the 12th District, I’ll be back to post the images.

Enjoy this day, my friends!

On The Way

IMG_2415-2

My contribution to Monochromia this week.  My comments there about this image were:

The morning found me back on the road again, and I was rushing to keep on time.  This scene made me stop the truck, run across the road, and wander around shooting in the dew soaked median for just a bit.

Yet another reason to love photography … the chance to stop, to breathe, and to capture the beauty that surrounds us.

If you have visited yet, Monochromia is a blog devoted to Black & White images, with contributions made from photographers the world over.

The Cobbler’s Shop

Since I’m off to a Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners meeting in Charlottesville this morning, I thought I’d share my post from Monochromia.

My beloved boots needed repairing, and this time the job needed to be done right.  Fortunately, a third generation cobbler opened a little shop not far from my home.  I’ll share a photo of the shoes and boots on the shelves another time.  This time, it’s all about the shadows.

Sea or Sky?

One of you lovely bloggers commented on my FB page that this image looked like waves and I agree!

It could go either way 🙂

Steam Heat

Don’t you just love seeing an old steam engine? They bring to mind history, and romance, and days gone by. Please visit Monochromia if you haven’t yet. You’ll see the work of a collaborative group of photographers, amateurs, and photo nuts from all parts of the world.  This is my contribution for the week.

“Yeah …. I’ve got  ::cling cling::  fsssss steam heat”

How many of you hummed that song as you read those words?  Or, sadly, how many of you have never heard of that 1954 song from The Pajama Game soundtrack?

For more images of the annual visit to my city by these historic steam engines, please check out the following links:

The Divide

Many of you are already familiar with Joe’s beautiful photography, and some of you know of his incredible spirit of generosity.

His passion for photography moved him to create Monochromia and allowed the crew of photographers and photo nuts to embark on a wonderful adventure.  He is generous with his time as he teaches less experienced photographers new techniques (please see his blog for his “You Asked For It” series).  He shares each and every Monochromia post on our FB page.  He reblogs every Monochromia post on his own blog The Visual Chronicle.  He has helped me to learn the basics of lightroom (and helped me with so many other things), and he and his wife have become my friends.

PLUS I just love this image!
Here’s to you, Joe, with a big ol Southwest Virginia THANK YOU!!

Gaslight

My contribution to Monochromia this week.  I’m telling ya’ll, participation in this blog (what an honor) challenges me, my creativity and my ability.  Phew!

BUT! Challenges make us stretch and grow, so I’m keeping with it!

(can you see the unplanned surprise in this image?)

Monochromia

The image of this intriguing old stump is my contribution to Monochromia this week.  Pop on over if you get a chance and if you didn’t know it already, you’ll learn that I’m a tree hugger (like you didn’t know that already 🙂 ).  As Joe always says, if you love B&W images, you need to check out Monochromia.

Waiting

The local music scene in my neck of the woods is all about friends gathering to play in pizza houses, restaurants, and other small venues.  Musicians gather to raise funds for the local food pantry and animal shelters, but of course they also gather to spread the joy of the song.

_MG_6560

I arrived early to the performance space and was drawn to the site of the instruments … just waiting for the hands that will bring them to life.
