The Colors of Nature (and the new bike!)

It was a beautiful evening … one of those times when the light captures the colors of nature perfectly!  I met with Pam to enjoy a glass or two of wine after work and the view was our reward for working hard (well, the view AND the wine AND the friendship).

The Trees Wanted the Attention

The sky was amazingly beautiful, but what struck me was the silhouette of the trees.  Still, my plan was to capture the outline of the mountains on the horizon.  The trees though, were demanding the attention.  And as I stood there on the side of the road, the colors kept changing as the sun sank lower, until finally the fence line was what remained.

Reward for Looking Up

I was the last one out of my office last evening, and I was a bit tired at the end of a long day.  It would have been tempting to trudge along, looking at the ground as I walked, just aiming for the truck and heading for home.  But I always try to look up and around as I make my way along, and this was my reward for doing so.

The Remains of the Tree

No doubt this snowfall was beautiful, and 3 days later the snow is still on the ground because of the cold temperatures – a bit unusual for SWVA.  It was a wet dense snow and it definitely took it’s toll.  Both trees and power lines came down, leaving many without power.

One medium sized pine fell across my driveway and the wood is now stacked up and ready for use. Something about the sun on the wood that next morning caught my eye …

Shootin’ In the Fog?

The trees were back lit by the street lights and their silhouettes were not completely shrouded by the fog.  It was so cool and kinda spooky looking that I stopped several times on the way home to take pictures …

and it’s quite obvious that I don’t have a clue how to shoot in the fog!!

A tripod maybe?

A better camera?

Or perhaps just a more knowledgeable photographer!

To Bare or Not To Bare

I drive past this field most mornings on the way to work.

I’ve been watching and waiting for the day when 1) I had the time and 2) when the sun was shining, in order to catch the one tree, of the many that ring that field, that has held on to it’s leaves.    The orange leaves catch the light beautifully.  I love the shadow being thrown from the hay bale and the barely visible moisture steaming from it.

It wasn’t until today though that I noticed the dramatic difference between that tree and another nearby.

One bare … one still leaf covered.

Foggy Morning in Radford

You may remember me saying that I often head out the door in the morning without a clue as to the weather or the temperature.  This morning, when driving to accomplish the mundane task of getting the oil changed in the truck, I was fortunate to witness the beauty of a foggy morning.  By the time I got home an hour later, I had stopped twice to shoot the silhouette of trees and once, the beautiful view shed that Radford offers.
