Monochromia: Rocker

My contribution to Monochomia last Saturday was another image taken while in Williamsburg, VA for a Nurse Practitioner conference.

Sunset: almost looks like camera flash, doesn’t it?

Celebration

Event planning as a volunteer, not a professional, is motivated by passion for a cause.  It requires alot of work, but the drive to succeed is great.  Event planning for a friend is motivated by love and the desire to create fun and happiness.

We celebrated a friend’s 50th Birthday this past weekend, and not only was it a lot of fun, it gave me an opportunity to play with photography.

You’ve heard me lament (whine?) about the lack of time spent with my camera in hand.

This event allowed me to find some time, AND enjoy a cocktail.

A lovely  way to spend an evening.

Water Well

While attending a Nurse Practitioner Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia this week, I was able to take a brief walk through the historic district.  Heading back home later today.

Love Your Neighbor *

We’ve all seen the signs.

Clever ones.     Funny ones.    Instructive ones.    Angry ones.

I’ve got dozens of photos of signs, but frankly, I’m having trouble processing them.

I’m too busy calling my elected officials, attending card writing parties, and planning an event to help Elect More Women.

I’ll be back to regular posting when things settle down a bit.

In the meantime, let’s all try to love one another a little more.

Whatcha say?

Make It a Movement

_mg_7387-2

I find that I have to keep the tissues close at hand as the emotions of 1/21/2017 overwhelm me.
Millions marched the world over.
More than 500,000 in DC with no arrests.
Not one negative comment or action did I witness.
Solidarity. Love. Passion. Commitment. Unity.
As my good friend and fellow marcher, Jim, noted “Now it is time to see that this marvelous moment becomes a meaningful movement that perseveres forward toward a future where justice and equality prevail. We shall not rest”.
That is our challenge.

About these images: As we walked the 2 miles along East Capitol St, from RFK Stadium to the rally site, the people who lived there welcomed us with signs, high fives (and high walkers), cheers and thumbs up.

As you might imagine, I have hundreds of photos to process.  I’ll be sharing more about this historic march as the days and weeks go by.  I realize that not all of you agree with me on these issues, but for those who do:

Let’s Make it a Movement!

I’ve already planned a Let’s Elect More Women event and havee got a postcard writing party in the works.

Fresh

_mg_7302-2

It is hard to tell, but the snow was still falling when I took this image, allowing us, as my friend Jim over at Poetry in Motion said, to walk on virgin earth.

As I write this post, quickly before leaving for work, I am pondering if after 4 1/2 years it is time to freshen up my blog. I’ve not changed a thing since I first stepped onto the virgin earth of this blog space. Perhaps it is time.

Pondering.

A Different View

As I write this post, I realize that several of my blogging friends are not the fans of snow that I am.

img_7307-3

Yes, I have lived up north.  I loved the snow then and I love the snow now.  And the less attractive parts of winter make the warmth and new growth of spring all the more welcome.

img_7325-2

The best part of this particular snowstorm?  It happened on a Saturday and I didn’t have to dig myself out at the crack of dawn to drive to work!

We didn’t get much, maybe 4 inches or so.  Yet still my heart is happy as I worry about the day when snow is a only a memory.

img_7324-2

The question is: how do you photograph the snow in a different way?  How do you avoid the same old snow scenes?

img_7327-2

Especially when you’ve not left the house and are still in your jammies.   When you stand on the porch in your slippers, where just a bit of snow has collected, and try to capture the glory of snow.

And then, you wander back inside and enjoy the quiet day, and the opportunity to play with photography.

Stay warm, my friends, and enjoy the day.
