    • GOA = Girls of August. We met in 1992 as graduate students at the Medical College of Virginia, became friends, and have been ever since. We gather twice every year – the first weekend in August, for four days of talk, food, drink, exploration, and fun; and also a 24 hour “Mid Winter Sanity Check” in February – a shorter version of August. So very lucky!

  1. You’ve totally captured the mood LB. From the beautiful furniture to the shadow of the blinds on the wall, it just all evokes a warm welcome. The rocker with the swan arms is very fetching.

    • Oh thank you for getting it! I wondered when I posted these photos, along with the very simple explanation, that I wouldn’t get the message out. Really! I’m so very glad you got it!

  2. Questions!
    1) What is a GOA?
    2) What is so special about this particular morning of the year?
    3) If you invite me to come visit you, and that lovely chair with with the swans carved into the armrests disappeared, would you mind so awful much? (Kidding!!!) 😉

On the serious side, I do love the light and shadows in all of these, Laurie.

    • Oh boy! I love it when someone else besides me puts questions in list format!!!

      2. I just love waking up to a houseful of women (well, 4 women) all dear friends, being able to sit around for hours, with coffee (or tea for one, diet coke for another), yummy breakfast, and lots of good talk. Talk that includes laughs, but also a catch up on life.
      3. HA!!!! Please come visit!! Just don’t take the chair 🙂
      4. You’ve made me smile, Lynda! Thank you!

    • I asked my friend about the chair as it has been such a hit in this post. She got the chair from a friend, had it reupholstered, and it moved to a couple different places with her and her sons. What I love is that she said after looking at the photos, she loved her house again.
      Now how cool is that?

    • We gathered at the home of one of the GOAs and when I directed her to the post, and particularly the comments, she told me that she started to like her home again. How cool is that? and yes … that chair has been the hit of the post!

  3. Gosh, this post has the personality of its author and the feeling of those friendships perfectly conveyed, visually and with words…such a lovely composition. What a warm feeling it gives me. 🙂

    • Liana, I’m so glad that you saw this post. I thought of you as I challenged myself to write meaningful words and not just run off at the mouth like I tend to do 🙂 Thank you!!

  4. Looking at your photos makes me so happy!! These are stunning. Really, really stunning.

I’m glad someone asked about the GOAs. What a lovely tradition. And where on earth did you find that beautiful chair? Is it a family heirloom?

    • The chair (which has truly been the hit of this post) is my friend’s, and the photos are from her home. She told me that she was given the chair by a friend as a hand me down and had it reupholstered. She had been wondering about it and upon reading all theses comments, has decided that she likes it again. I too, love it!
Thank you for your kind words about the photos, Mary. I’m smiling!
