Pick Up Where I Left Off?

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about Life on the Bike and getting back into my blogging groove.  I’m 6 months behind on posting photos from various adventures.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Tallahassee, Florida

Knoxville, Tennessee

various Virginia State Parks

and Cincinnati, Ohio

I’ve worked alot, and volunteered alot.

Thankfully, I’ve played, alot, too.  I’ve traveled for fun and I’ve traveled for work.

I’ve worked on political campaigns and hosted non-political fundraisers.

I’ve riden the bike (not enough!) and managed to keep up with photography (again, not enough!).

And finally, I’ve missed WP and my blogging friends.

Slowly but surely, I’m finding my way back to my WordPress home!

Coming Home

As I traveled home last Sunday, I kept hoping that I’d be able to stop and capture some of Fall’s gorgeous colors.  With time running short, I pushed on to the house.  I turned into the driveway and slammed on the brakes.  Right there, in my own yard,  were the colors I was seeking.

For my contribution to Monochromia this week, I converted the scene to B&W.

Pretty stunning either way, right?

Hurricanes in the Mountains: Monochromia

Florence brought devastation to the Carolinas, and it will take a very long time for the land and the people to recover.  In the mountains of Southwest Virginia, we were lucky in terms of flooding and power outages.  This image was taken in Nelson County on the day that Hurricane Florence came through.

Florence though, was nothing like Camille, at least in Nelson County, Virginia.

On August 19, 1969, in the middle of the night while everyone slept, Camille stalled over Nelson County, Virginia, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, dropping an astonishing 27 to 31 inches of rain in just a five-hour period. The sudden inundation of water caused an entire side of a mountain at Davis Creek to cave in, destroying 23 of 25 homes.

Camille took 153 lives in Nelson County.  Property damage in Virginia topped a half-billion dollars, and it was a decade before the commonwealth got back to normal.

Palms in Monochrome

Back in June, we traveled to Las Vegas for the first time since early childhood.  Included in a jam packed 48 hour weekend were a few moments at the pool, which is where I was captivated by the sun shining through the palms.
