The Best

That’s what Thanksgiving is to me.  The Best Holiday of the Year.

Family.   Friends.   Food.   Football.

Enjoying the traditional Bloody Mary and Mom’s braided bread while watching the  Macy’s Parade, and the National Dog Show.

No Gifts.   No Shopping.   No fighting over Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas.

Just the colors and beauty of the season.

Remembering the blessing of good health, and the opportunity to give to those less fortunate.

  1. I’m up early and found this just tumbled into my inbox – what a lovely post to start my Sunday!! Are these photos taken in your dining room or your porch? They are fabulous photos and the table setting looks delightful! I’m so glad to hear you had a lovely and peaceful Thanksgiving day with your loved ones 🙂

    • Hi Pauline, These photos are of my dining room table. After the devastation of the election, it was such a nice distraction to put together such a pretty table. My family and Andrew were all here, we put a moratorium on political discussions, and as a result had a lovely time.
Andrew headed back to Atlanta this evening, and I’m getting ready to get some sleep before work tomorrow.

    • My mom started making that bread when we were children and it is so yummy! I make it now, too, and give it for Christmas gifts.
      How was your Thanksgiving, Joe?

  2. Awesome photos, Laurie. Glad you had a great time with food, family and football. I do love Thanksgiving because of the reasons you mention: no shopping, just eating good food. It’s awesome!

  3. I watched a bit of that parade and dog show at my mom’s house yesterday, LB….not my normal fare, but it was a good time, nonetheless.

    Sweet photos and words…. 🙂

    • That parade is extra fun because we have friends who get to be clowns every year and we watch closely so we can see them.
Glad you enjoyed the change of pace

  4. Loved those wine glasses. The table looks so inviting. Everyday is a day for giving thanks. Wouldn’t it be lovely for it to be so pretty each time? :)) Such a lot of work and a chance to shine and share. I vote for any day that gets people in a happy, festive mood. Can you tell the photos made me giddy? 🙂

    • I’m so glad you liked the table setting, Marlene! Decorating the table brought me happiness and a welcome distraction from the devastation of the election. I even bought new placemats and decorative items. It was fun, and I still have the centerpiece and candles on the table.
I smile each time I walk by.

  5. I agree 100% about loving Thanksgiving! I feel it’s so much more authentic and meaningful than Christmas has become. Your table is gorgeous and the photographs are perfect. Yay for the Hokies and for my Nittany Lions!

    • Kerry, I’m visiting WP for the first time in maybe 2 weeks! That may be a record for me. Somehow, I imagine that you have managed to keep up. Can’t wait to visit your place later this evening.

  6. Laurie, you set such a welcoming table. Your photos are gorgeous, as warm and rich as your celebration. I couldn’t help but notice the crackers. I’m off to get some today at Cost Plus. I’m glad you enjoyed the special day with family, and that you could briefly find respite from the devastating election results. Hugs.

  7. Lovely photos. Glad you had a great time. I appreciate how Americans will say Happy Thanksgiving, and not the ubiquitous term Happy Holidays, which conveys no passion at all to my way of thinking.

    • Hi Meghan, the Hokies have had an incredible weekend in sports! Winning the Belk Bowl and topping Duke in BBall. Happiness.
So thank for stopping by. I’ll pop over to your space now and see what’s up!
