You were expecting Fireworks? The Stars and Stripes? Burgers and Potato Salad? While I did enjoy all of the traditions of the 4th of July, for some reason, I wasn’t moved to photograph them.
Instead, it was the simple things, on a clear, almost cloudless day, that drew my attention.
It was a day of friendship, laughter, sunshine, and celebration.
What a wonderful way to celebrate the 4th of July.
Happy Summer Everyone!
Jeez you take some good photos LB
Thanks so much! Big smile on my face!
Hard to choose a favorite here. Maybe the wooden clothes pins. Maybe the shallow dof of the fence. Maybe…?
Thanks! That might be my favorite, too 🙂
I was kinda pleased with the day’s work. Somedays it seems that none of the images turn out very well and other days, more than one turn out
Don’t know if you looked at your email yet but I sent you an invitation! RSVP!
Perfect! It’s a string of Summer scenes. I can almost feel the heat and the lazy breeze. The lichen on the fence with the yellow flowers… so awesome. What a beautiful photo. You are right, I expected fireworks, and I’m so glad you proved me wrong.
I’m so glad I could bring you happiness, Crystal. You’ve been in my thoughts!
I loved how you took this day on a very different perspective.
Thank you for saying that, Laurie. I am so glad people seem to be appreciating it.
Bike AND a pool – nice 😀
Yes!! Too bad it’s not mine! But at least I have friends who let me come swim in theirs!
Result 🙂
It’s nice to see something different for the 4th of July 🙂 I’m no an American to celebrate it, but I do follow a few people here on wordpress and I also have a few on my facebook account.
Thanks Klaudia. I was outside all day and the natural scenes just spoke to me.
Well of course I just loved that floating aqua chair – somehow the epitome of lazy summer days – And don’t we just know who else will sqee with delight when she sees it 🙂
For some reason I really like the pegs too! Good choices for your 4th Laurie 🙂
I’m so glad you “get” the floating chair! and the pegs / clothespins seem to be a hit, too. It was a good day for photography 🙂
Love the moss on the fence, LB. But all of your photos are intriguing and beautiful as usual. What a great idea to look at a traditional day with fresh eyes. Glad you had a wonderful day filled with friends and laughter. xoxoxoxox
Thanks Dani! I’m just happy that folks seem to be appreciating the different perspective.
Good to hear from you and hope you are enjoying your (and mine) beloved fall weather 🙂
Nice shots 🙂 Is there a Honda Goldwing in that pool?
Ha! You are clever!! Definitely not an HD 🙂
But you can see what i mean though 🙂
so beautiful 🙂
Thanks Joshi!
Beautiful photos. The aqua chair is too funny!!
It is funny! I’m sure people wondered why I was photographing the chair!
Love, love LOVE the fence and clothespins!!
Thanks Lisa! I thought it turned out okay, too.
Are you back to blogging now?
That’s my kind of fourth.
Yes, it was a good one! Incredible weather, good friend, food, and drink. Happy sigh!
This post makes me so happy. Your photos are stunning, with the one of the fence and the clothespins take me to my special place.
Also, I’m inspired by what inspires you.
Thank you, Alys, and I love your comment. It was a good day for photography … somedays it just seems to work 🙂
Agreed!
Thanks for sharing the simple things LB. They’re always so appealing to me. I’m all about laid back moments so much more than the raw raw, sis-boom-ba moments. Your Clothespin photo it just so perfect. Makes me feel like a kid again because no one ever uses them here anymore. Oh how I wish we had a pool over the last few days. Hot Hot and by the weekend, there are 3 days in a row that are forecast to be 30 C (89 F) Bugger! (squeeze me) That’s toooooo hot.
My friends have this pool in their back yard and it so lovely. In fact, on the 4th it was actually a teeny bit chilly. It was an incredibly clear, humidity free day.
The clothes pins do take us back don’t they?
My mom still uses a clothes line in her back yard.
Stay cool somehow Boomdee. How’s the Boom Room coming along???
I’m almost unpacked in there and the Boom Room has gotten a new cupboard with all my treasure on it. I’ve been rearranging it to get the vibe just right. Thanks for asking, you’re always so thoughtful xo ❤
Outstanding shots and post Laurie 🙂 I love the shallow DOF in the fence and shot. Thats what I call chill in with the pool picture 🙂
I’ve learned much from you on DOF and now that I think of it, I should have used that as my “Imitating Joe” shot. You are a challenge for me, because I just don’t know how to get those big, clear, images. I’ll get there!!
Wow! Who’d ever think clothes pins could look artsy! Loved the pictures.
Thanks Cindy! Who knew your clothespins would make such a great photo subject 🙂
Those clothespins would have spoken to me, too. Lovely and yet so simple. 🙂
Thank you, Leilani. I’m so glad that people “get” what I saw!
how entirely wonderful . . . the fence and the hollyhocks . . . stunningly simply lovely
I wondered what those flowers were!! I was really tickled with that shot (I’m guessing they don’t use that term up north, but you must have heard it when living in Virginia!) 🙂
It sounds like a wonderful day. It rained and was freezing cold up in New York. – You were very lucky!
We were lucky! It was clear, without humidity. Here’s hoping you have a sunny day to play … soon!!
Not sure how I missed this in my earlier visit to your outstanding blog but this is an absolutely wonderful post and wonderful photographs. You have captured the essence of what summer is all about! Kudos!
Thanks for such a great comment. You’ve made me smile this morning 🙂
Yes!
the little things should be celebrated too. love your collection of photos. Favourite shot is the one of the fence. Great capture!
That one was one that I knew would be good the moment I took it … doesn’t happen very often 🙂
Thanks so much!
Seems I am not the only one who appreciates a good shot of clothespins…
these are all lovely, Laurie!
